Let’s have a look at some of the salient features of this all-new Audi A4 diesel engines and petrol as well.

Frugal engines and high performance

Audi engines are already popular for their economy, so at the launch of new A4, three TFSI petrol and four TDI diesel engines will be offered.

What Audi has been doing to these engines has made them so efficient that now the fuel consumption has been reduced by 21 percent and on the other hand, the power has been increased by almost 25 per cent.

What Audi is offering in petrol engines?

The range starts with a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine which delivers 148 bhp and churns out 184lb ft. of torque. It is mated with and optional seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox which enables it to hit 62mph in just 8.9 seconds. The average fuel economy is said to be 57.6mpg.

Then there is the 2.0litre TFSI which has replaced the old 1.8-litre four pot engine. The customers are quite happy with this decision of the company. The Audi is calling this engine, the ‘B’ engine. It is coming in two power outputs – a 188 bhp and a 248 bhp unit. The latter one takes only 5.8 seconds for a sprint to 62 mph from a standstill and keeps on pushing till it hits 155mph, the top speed. If you opt for the lower-powered model, they are more efficient and return economy as high as 58.9 mpg.

So what about the diesel engines?

Audi hallmark is its diesel engines and what these latest units are offering, makes them most efficient by far. The 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, despite of being a 148bhp unit with a seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox, takes only 8.7 seconds for a 62mph sprint from a standstill. If you go for six-speed manual one, then the combined economy is 74.3mpg and CO2 emissions 99g/km. The 188bhp variant of 2.0-litre TDI returns 68.9mph in the saloon while the Avant returns 67.3mph.

A revised version of 3.0-litre TDI is topping the diesel range, depending on your choice, it develops either 215bhp or 268bhp. The higher powered version develops a massive 443lb ft. of torque.
