The car makers are shocked with the two-phase implementation of the Euro 6 standards by 2020!

According to the news, released by EU insider, that the European Automobile Manufacturer Association (ACEA) is requiring “conformity factor” of 1.7, according to this the cars would be granted Euro 6 status only from 2020, if it will be at the limit of 0.136g/km of NOx emissions.

The policy makers have planned two-phase implementation of Euro 6 standards, softer to harder regulation from 2017 to 2020.

The Euro 6 standards will set the NOx emission limit from a car engine at 0.080g/km by 2020. EU regulators are planning of zero-tolerance approach in this regard.

The ACEA is planning to bring Real-World Driving emissions tests from 1st January 2016, initially RDE will be implemented only for monitoring purposes, the RDE will be used for Euro 6 standards from 2017. And from 2018, RDE will be compulsory for new vehicle approval.

There is a severe reaction on the Euro 6 standards among car manufacturer across the Europe. The car makers have shown huge concerns on the implementation of the Euro 6 emissions standards. They have requested EU regulators to lower the emissions standards particularly NOx emission targets need to be revised for a new a car, as it is quite hard to comply with these standards.

The car manufacturers have denied to comply with 2020 diesel pollution targets as it will get to double of existing Euro standards by that time.

According to clean vehicles for Transport and Environment (a campaign group participating in the technical discussion of Euro 6 standards), all the efforts being made in regard to emission standards are slower and taking the sides of automobile manufacturers by giving them plenty of time. The group has a concern that auto industry wants to weaken the emissions laws instead of complying Euro 6 emissions standards by using the right technology, it is completely unacceptable.

On the other hand, a spokesperson at ACEA said, the automobile manufacturers must need the right conformity factor for all of their vehicles, they must follow RDE package. Come what may, we will not tolerate any manipulation in regard with the Euro 6 emissions standards, the spokesperson adds.
