Renault Clio

Efficiency with performance, thanks to the perfect engine trail

The Renault Clio has been an appealing and attractive supermini car since 1990, which is full of fun to drive after latest incarnation.

The Renault Clio is a supermini car, produced by the French automaker, Renault. In the 1990 the Clio made its first appearance in the market, since then it is recognized as one of the most popular small cars in the UK.

The Renault has always been trying to make small cars and new Clio is as fresh and interesting as the older one was praised and loved. The latest Clio, with some changes in exterior and interior, gives a more practical look than the drab third generation Clio.

The petrol trio and a couple of diesels strengthen the Clio’s engine lineup

The petrol engines of the Clio are small but modern and clean. Except the entry-level 1.2-litre petrol engine, every version in the Clio is clean in performance and smooth around the town.

The most popular petrol engine is 0.9-liter three-cylinder TCe90 which is refined and gives much better performance than expectations. Fuel economy is good as 66m/g. it produces the power of 89bhp and has decent shove from around 2500rpm. At the moment at the top of the petrol range there is a 1.2 Tce engine with manual gearbox.

It proves more powerful in automatic gearbox managing 0-62m/h in 9.3 seconds.

Clio GT

The Renault sport models and GT models are equipped with 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine with EDC dual-clutch gearbox as standard. It is considered and appreciated as a good replacement of manual gearbox, though limited to some special models but The Renault will use this new EDC dual-clutch system in all models later on. The 1.6 liter turbocharged engine is the fastest version in petrol range and takes the small Clio from 0-62m/h in 6.7seconds with maximum speed of 143m/h.

The small Clio, equipped with Switchable Renault sport Drive system gives less impressive performance than EDC version, it takes 9.9 seconds for 0-62m/h sprint and maximum speed of the Clio with this system is 124m/h.

The three-cylinder 0.9 Tce petrol engine is available with start/stop system as standard, and this allows to the light weight small Clio to maintain a smart fuel consumption with average of 63m/g with emissions of CO2 at the rate of just 103g/km. With ECO pack, the Clio is equipped with longer gear ratio, low rolling resistant tires and a lighter interior- means less fuel consumption and good average with low emissions than before. This set up gives 66m/g of fuel average and99g/km of emissions.

Diesel Engine

The diesel engine is also cheap in performance, the 1.5litre diesel engine (DCI 90 DYNA) has the same 89bhp power output as the petrol, but it gives more pleasure and fun in driving. It is also faster than the petrol version with same capacity.

There is another version of this diesel unit with 108bhp and known as 1.5-litre diesel (DCI 110 DYNA). The 1.6-liter diesel unit is completely different in performance. It produces 197bhp and the maximum speed of this giant is 144m/h. this engine is installed in the hardcore Renault Sport Clio.
